Three Mile Beach

This project was secured by the main contractor P Chapman and consisted of 17 beach chalets on the dunes at Gwithian Towans, Hayle, Cornwall.

The works involved were not only roof works comprising of shingle roofs, felt roofs and green roofs but also the external envelope of the building comprising of cedar cladding, vertical cedar shingles, aluminium powder coated flashings and rainwater goods.

The Solution

P Chapman secured this contract and A-Tec Design was appointed to finalise all details.  We assisted with the designs and worked with the main contractor in order to build the chalets and ensure the works were integrated together.

Challenges

Not all 17 chalets were the same as there were four different types of building consisting of different shapes, sizes and detailing. There was also the added challenge of the client changing their requirements and finding solutions to work around.

There was a requirement for fire rated cedar shingles and we worked with Silva Timber to source these within the time frame required. This was challenging in itself as the delivery came from Canada in two bulk orders and logistically the site being on the dunes and susceptible to inclement weather.

With there being so many elements and different detailing, Prennek managed and completed a lot of this work on our behalf.

The project was nominated for a national award at the NFRC Awards for best project over the value of £250k and we came in the top four.
