St Ives Museum

The Project

Locations like St Ives are always a pleasure to work in, despite the access challenges posed by the narrow streets, you cannot beat working in front of a beach view. Recently, Western Flat Roofing was contracted by Cornwall Council to carry out roof repairs to St Ives Museum.

St Ives Project

The Solution

Western Flat Roofing used Garland UK self-adhesive built up felt StressPly Mineral System on insulation with tapered insulation in the base of the valley to upgrade thermal efficiency and create better drainage. This created an improved roof that was in keeping with the surrounding environment. This was signed off by Justyn Irons, the Garland UK representative for the warranty.

Challenges

The roof had failed and was badly leaking. On top of this Cornwall Heritage rejected original plans for a metal standing seam as it was not in keeping with the local environment. Western Flat Roofing assured the team that we could complete the renewal using felt system. Once we had found a solution and started work we then ran into a delay when a seagull was found nesting on the roof with its chicks. We decided it was best to wait until the family of seagulls moved on and then we could begin work.

Feedback

Having had years of consistent leaks Western Flat Roofing was able to amend the project and ensure that the roofs were significantly upgraded. The client is happy to report there have been ‘no leaks’ since project completion.
